10 of the most overpowered video game characters of all time! Part II

Continuing my list of the top ten most powerful video game characters, we start off with a character a few of you may be quite familiar with.

4. Nightcrawler- X-Men Legends II. Nightcrawler is a fan favorite because, well, he’s cool. Whenever the X-crew makes the translation to video games Nightcrawler is almost always mixed into the bunch. The guy is in at least a half a dozen games I can think of off hand, including all three games in the X-Men Legends/Marvel Ultimate Alliance series. In X-Men Legends II, this is where the fuzzy elf’s power really shone with the power of the sun. First of all, he was a little bugged, in that if you only put one skill point in a particular skill of his it cost 0 energy, becoming a cheap and insanely powerful replacement to his physical attacks. Secondly, pretty much every attack he had would hit multiple times, which stacked any nasty effects Nightcrawler had hidden in his equipment. The piece de` resistance, though, was his ultimate, or ‘X-treme’, attack, Blindside Blitz. At max I believe it smacked any target a good ten times, and that, given with the fact that you could spam the crap out of it if you had enough X-treme power, AND it had insane base damage added up to Nightcrawler dealing upwards of 3000 points a hit, ten times in a single attack, in a game where your physical attacks deal, oh, I dunno, 40 points.

3. Mr. Fantastic- Marvel Ultimate Alliance.
Mr. Fantastic can be summarized in a single word- Ridonkulous. Every move he has is fantastic, no pun intended, but he has a couple that are just over the top. He has a self buff that increases his critical strike chance up to over 100%, effectively doubling any and all damage he causes. Ever. Every point this guy puts out is doubled, making him effectively twice as powerful as any other character just based on that alone. Plus he gets a few moves, such as a rapid firing area of effect ‘charge’ attack that is bugged and doesn’t need charging in order to deal maximum damage and also makes him invincible while he performs the move, that basically have him spitting out 1000 points of damage in a wide area about once a second. No baddie in the game can withstand more than a couple of hits from ol’ stretch, with the exception of the bosses, who just sit there and look stupid while he pounds them.

2. Gold Super EX Ultimate Sol Badguy- Guilty Gear X2. Gold Super EX Ultimate Hyper Uber Friggin Sweet Incredible Potato Sol Badguy. All right, I might have added a few prefixes, but let me tell you, it takes a lot more than a thesaurus-full of words to describe how epically powerful this guy is. Sol Badguy is one of the main characters of the Guilty Gear fighting game series, and Gold Sol is a secret version of him. To even obtain the guy requires a grueling, some might say masochistic, trek through the games survival mode, pitting you against a virtually endless slew of combatants, all the while you having little health recovery. And after you think it’s all over, you think to yourself “Ok, I just spent three hours doing this. Surely they’ll throw you a bone.” You find out that yeah, they throw you a bone. A friggin’ T-rex bone, cause when this guy pops up he’ll promptly kick your ass all the way back to the stone age. Gold Super EX Sol is so fast, so powerful, that it almost seems like he was created to only be best used by the computer, as you need advanced trigonometry just to know what the hell you’re doing when you control the guy. He moves at almost the speed of light, and his moves do multiple times their regular damage. And he looks pretty friggin’ sweet. If you somehow manage to beat him, (AKA use a cheat code. There’s no dishonor in that, this guy’s insane) you will have unlocked one of the most insanely overpowered characters in the history of history.

1. Cidorfus ‘Thunder God Cid’ Orlandu- Final Fantasy Tactics. Any of you that have ever played FF Tactics know that it can be a quite challenging game. Throughout your entire quest you are frequently outnumbered and overpowered. As the game goes on, things get bleaker, and bleaker. Your characters seem downtrodden, your special attacks just aren’t hitting for what they used to. But wait, what’s that in the distance? A shining beacon of hope? A beacon named Orlandu? That’s right, Orlandu’s here and he’s looking to spank some naughtiness right out of your foes. You get Orlandu close to the end of this phenomenally long game, and when you do, you might think something went wrong with the game. How could he possibly be doing so much damage? Why does he have so many hit points? His starting equipment includes the freakin’ Excalibur? That’s right, weary readers, Orlandu is everything you’ve heard. And more. His skillset contains the custom skillsets of three other ‘special’ part members combined, including a couple of moves that deal massive damage whilst healing him, his moves seem to hit for at least double damage every time he attacks, and thanks to the Haste effect built into the Excalibur, he goes almost twice as often as anyone else. To clarify, you could play the rest of the game using only Orlandu and probably do fine, he’s just that powerful. I’ve played through the game like five times and I still don’t think I know what he looks like if an enemy has knocked him out, because it’s just never happened.

So there you have it, ten of this humble gamer’s picks for the most overpowered video game characters. There are plenty of insane characters out there, and plenty more that will be in games that aren’t even out yet. When that time comes, I shall leap forth from the shadows once more to proclaim those characters’ names proudly, in twelve point times new roman.
